What Is Capnometry and how does it work?
Capnometry Testing Arrives at ATUNE
Capnometry is a highly efficient biofeedback respiratory testing technology, now available exclusively at ATUNE Health Centres in Cardiff — the only medical centre in the Hunter Region to offer this advanced service.
A Non-Invasive and Accurate Approach
This non-invasive and highly accurate method provides an in-depth analysis of breathing function within just a few minutes. It's increasingly being used by general practitioners, specialists, and allied health professionals to gain critical insights into a patient’s respiratory health — insights not typically available through other standard testing methods.
Safe and Simple for All Patients
Capnometry testing at ATUNE can be administered to individuals of all ages and health conditions. It is performed using a simple nasal cannula, with no need for physical effort or increased breathing exertion. Patients breathe normally while their respiratory function is monitored in real time.
Each Capnometry session lasts only six minutes. The first three minutes are conducted in a seated position, followed by three minutes lying down. This dual-position approach helps to capture a comprehensive respiratory profile.
Key Respiratory Metrics Measured
Unlike standard respiratory tests, Capnometry evaluates three critical but often overlooked parameters:
Resting Respiratory Rate
End-Tidal COâ‚‚ (ETCOâ‚‚) Levels
Breath-by-Breath Respiratory Pattern
Future blog posts will explore the significance of these respiratory measurements and how they impact overall health and treatment outcomes.
