Valerie Milner – ATUNE Health Centres - Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

Valerie is a qualified Mental Health Social Worker who holds an Honours Degree in Social Work from the University of Newcastle. She has also completed an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy as well as a Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision. Valerie is a fully accredited member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), the Australasian Association of Supervisors (AAOS), and is accredited to provide counselling under Medicare.
Valerie has been working within the field of Social Work for over 18 years and within this time has worked with individuals, couples and families facing a range of difficult circumstances and problems. She has worked for Family Support, hospital and community based mental health services and with adult job seekers to overcome barriers to gaining employment. Valerie has written and delivered group programs for various organisations and has provided community training seminars on mental health issues such as depression and suicide. She has been providing professional supervision for a number of years and currently supervises school chaplains, social workers and students, and other community and church based professionals.
Valerie is passionate about supporting people to overcome difficulties and situations that limit their true potential by keeping them ‘stuck’. She has a genuine desire to see people live free, authentic, fulfilling lives and works with her clients to achieve optimal outcomes for their circumstances. Valerie is experienced in working in areas of depression, anxiety, grief and loss, stress and anger and with those experiencing interpersonal relationship difficulties. She also has experience in helping people work through family of origin/past issues that can impact a persons’ belief systems, sense of self value, capacity for satisfying relationships, and the overall ability to enjoy their lives on a daily basis.
Outside of work, Valerie enjoys keeping active, loves cooking for friends and family, and rejuvenates by relaxing on her back porch with either a cup of tea or a glass of pear cider. She also volunteers her time to the local Community Fire Unit as a Team Co-ordinator.
