Karren Robertson - ATUNE Health Centres - Clinical Psychologist (Clinical Psychology Registrar)
MPsych (Clin), BPsych (Hons), MAPS, MAPS Clinical Psychology College Associate
Karren Robertson is an endorsed Clinical Psychologist who gets immense satisfaction from empowering people who need help to make changes that will improve their psychological wellbeing and to work towards living rich and meaningful lives consistent with their values. Karren is accredited to provide psychological services under Medicare. She is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and an Associate Member of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. Karren has completed the Master of Psychology – Clinical and the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) with Honours Class 1.
Karren works with clients typically aged from 14-years to older adults, across a range of mental health conditions, with a special interest in anxiety and older adults. Her clinical training includes working in:
- private-practice settings with adults, adolescents and children experiencing mild to moderate mental health conditions or issues (such as anxiety, mood and post-traumatic stress disorders, sleep issues/insomnia, grief and trauma);
- an in-patient unit as part of a multi-disciplinary team treating adults with complex mental health conditions (such as schizophrenia spectrum and personality disorders); and
- public health settings with children and adolescents, many of whom were in out-of-home or foster care and/or had a complex trauma history.
Karren likes to work collaboratively with her clients to individually tailor treatment plans, by looking at all the biological, psychological and social factors that may be negatively impacting their mental health and making life difficult. A primary focus is to develop a trusting relationship to learn together what can be changed to help clients live more positive, meaningful and rich lives, and to implement those changes effectively. Her preferred therapy approaches involve evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, in combination with supportive counselling, mindfulness and motivational interviewing techniques.
Karren loves being with her family and particularly enjoys looking after her young grandson. In her spare time, she also likes to catch up with friends and have a good laugh, “try” to keep fit with regular gym workouts and box-fit (and probably laugh there too!), take scenic walks, watch a good movie, and caravan around the beautiful Australian landscapes. Her personal long-term goal is to learn Spanish before travelling there in a few years.
