Is an Exercise Physiologist right for you?Â
Many people don’t realise that an Exercise Physiologist treatment session is not a workout. An Exercise Physiologist administers a dosage of treatment to specifically improve a condition the client presents with. For example, a client presents with a lumbar spinal injury causing lower back pain.
An EP’s job is to assess the individual's biomechanics, movement/muscular imbalances, strengths/weaknesses,  and physiology to administer a specific prescribed treatment to improve that clients individuals needs.Â
What does an Exercise Physiologists do?
Exercise Physiology will treat clients with acute to chronic injury and disease specific to individual needs. Treatments range from exercise programs, stretching, manipulation techniques with tools such as massage balls and rollers, goal setting and a holistic approach to getting someone back to their most optimal life. Exercise Physiologists also specialise in strength and conditioning for sports and specific performance enhancements.Â
What process can you expect from an Exercise Physiologist?
1. Initial consult
This will involve getting a health history, injury history, mechanism for injury, goals, needs and anything else that may be relevant to returning you to optimal function. Then you will be placed under some muscle testing to identify your current physical condition and capacity around your injury.Â
2. Plan
The Exercise Physiologist will develop an injury management plan to outline the timeframe for treatment to recovery and key steps along the way.Â
3. Treatment
Graded treatment specific to you to increase capacity.Â
4. Return to Everyday Life
You will receive management strategies to maintain your physical capacity. Â
