Time

This seems to be a fast-paced generation. Do you feel like you are in a constant rush?  Whilst doing one task are you are thinking about the next?  We have lists of ‘things to do’ that seem endless.  We work hard to get everything done but somehow we never get there - the list just keeps growing.  We can feel deprived of time and overwhelmed just living our daily lives.

This generation has been labelled as ‘time poor’.  Being time poor means that we don’t have enough time to do what we think we need to.  The question is, “Is this inevitable”? Let’s think about it for a moment. There have always been 24 hours in a day.  Many people alive today would remember spending many of these hours either walking or riding bikes to run errands.  Women caught buses or walked to gather groceries.  Activities took much longer, yet there was still enough time to stop and chat with neighbours, socialise with friends and enjoy family time at the dinner table. Have we become too busy and sacrificed important things to meet daily goals? This year could be a good time to stop for a moment and think about what is important.  Once we have prioritised our time we can make more deliberate choices about how we spend our 24 hours. Saying ‘no’ to things that are less important will enable us to resist fast-paced living and increase our enjoyment in life.
