Sweat: The Great Detoxer
As I was running around the lake last week I saw a man whose shirt was absolutely drenched from sweat. He looked like he had taken a bath. Everyone was giving him wide berth especially his wife who certainly didn’t want a hug.
Now a sweating body may not be pleasant to hug, however does that make sweat bad?
In our society we frown on sweating. We’re told that sweating is bad, unattractive and offensive to everyone around us. T V advertisements paint a very clear picture about the offence of underarm perspiration. But is this really the right message?
The truth is that sweat was created for the benefit of your health. Sweat gets rid of the toxins in our body. Without it we would become toxic reservoirs. Constantly using anti-perspirant sprays, living in air conditioning or exercising in places, times or at intensities that doesn’t allow our body to sweat enables the toxins to build up in our body impacting on our health.
We have between 2 and 3 million sweat glands whose main job is to remove toxins from our bodies. So when it comes to our health many of us need to have a shift in mindset. Whilst I’m not advocating scaring people away with your sensational body odor, we need to stop seeing sweat as the bad friend it has become.
Sweating is essential to your health. So get off the indoor walker and take it to the outdoors.
