Buteyko Therapy

What is the Buteyko Breathing Method?

The Buteyko Breathing Method is a powerful therapy which corrects dysfunctional breathing problems in the form of Chronic Hyperventilation Syndrome (CHVS). CHVS occurs when a person is breathing an excessive volume of air on a constant basis. CHVS leads to many serious health conditions, and must be corrected for health to be restored. CHVS is also called Hidden Hyperventilation because it often goes unnoticed by the sufferer and everyone else. CHVS is often characterised by constant mouth and chest breathing.

Who founded Buteyko?

Dr. Konstantin Buteyko began his research into the connection between breathing and health after observing the breathing patterns of patients suffering from acute medical conditions. In his research he noted that when the dysfunctional breathing pattern of a chronically unwell person was corrected there was an observable improvement in their condition. This research led to the development of his Breathing Method. Buteyko was introduced into Australia in 1991.
