Conditions such as Insomnia, Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea are common. More than 30% of adults and almost 10% of children suffer from these conditions.
Insomnia
If you have difficultly falling to sleep, remaining asleep or wake feeling tired you may be suffering from Insomnia. Insomnia is the chronic inability to sleep or achieve quality sleep. There are 5 stages of sleep that we all cycle through several times each night. Our most restful sleep occurs in stages 3 and 4. CHVS can limit people to stages 1 and 2 restricting the capacity to have a restful night's sleep. Continuous poor sleep produces negative health outcomes.
Snoring
Snoring can affect the sleep of your partner and family. But did you know it can also affect the quality of your own sleep and health? Snoring is caused by an abnormal rate and depth of breathing (CHVS). This heavy breathing increases the amount of high pressure air passing the soft tissue of the oral cavity resulting in the noise of snoring. Repetitive snoring often develops into Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is a condition that causes individuals to experience periods of heavy breathing followed by periods when they do not breath at all (Apnoea). Each Apnoea can last up to 90 seconds and draws the sufferer to near consciousness without actually waking them. An Apnoea is the body’s defence against this dysfunctional pattern of breathing and can occur multiple times during a night. This condition can be stressful for you and your partner and detrimental to your health (see above for other symptoms of CHVS).
